We are reading many different versions of the gingerbread man!  Maybe this could inspire your child to write their own version and bring it to school so we can read it!

Planetarium Trip

We will be visiting the planetarium in November.......you can explore stars and space at home to help prepare your child for the trip!

Read stories with your families, listen to Welch teachers perform a Readers Theater, learn how to check out Ebooks, and visit with storyteller Celeste Giles from Naperville Public Library. Apply for a Naperville Public library card! Naperville residents must bring a Photo ID and one form of identification with address.

BATS

We have been talking about fiction and non-fiction books!  Your child wrote their own non-fiction bat book and it is coming home today!!!! Please read it with them and talk to them about what they learned about bats and what fiction and non-fiction means!!!

SHAPES SHAPES SHAPES

YOur child is bringing home their shapes book.  Please look for things in the world around them that match the shapes in the book!

Changes

We have been noticing the change in seasons and making a list of changes!  The leaves are changing and it's getting colder!!  Take a walk or a drive and try to list changes that you see from summer to now!

We finished another 6 sounds in jolly phonics today!!  Your child is bringing home the review sheet!  Please practice at home!  I will assess during centers tomorrow!

5 Senses

We will start exploring our 5 senses in science next week.  Please take a walk outside and have your child notice something with each sense!

Pete the Cat!

We read Pete the Cat and made our own class book today!!!  Ask your child what they said Pete stepped in and what color his shoes changed!!!

jolly phonics

Another tricky sound was introduced today.....U!!  Please practice at home!

Jolly Phonics G

The jolly phonics action for g is spinning your hand around simulating water going down a drain.  It's supposed to remind the kids of how water sounds "gurgling" down the drain.  If possible, fill a sink and let your child hear this sound at home....it's a hard one for them to understand!

Unity

Color words

We are working on recognizing color words!!! Please look for color words in print around your home and in the world around you!!!

Jolly Phonics

We have learned the sounds and motions for the first 6 letters.  Your child should have brought home the pages they completed at school.  Please practice with them at home.  I will be assessing the sounds this Friday.

Count forward by ones.
Counting forward by ones beginning with a number other than 1.
Counting forward by tens.
Saying a sequential number name for each object counted.
Counting out a given number of objectsbetween 0-20. (target is 0-10)
Comparing sets of objects to one another to interpret if the sets are greater than, less than, or equal.

Eric Carle

We are going to start learning about Eric Carle!  You can start reading his books from the library to familiarize your child with his work!!!  He has written many wonderful books!

First Assembly

We had our first assembly today!  We talked about our school rules:
Respect yourself!
Respect others!
Respect property!

First day! I am looking forward to our first day tomorrow. It will be a long day full of routines and finding everything!! I'm sure we will find some time for fun too!
